My friend took his Tj to the dealership to get a few things done since he had fog lights that stayed on all the time and a check engine light on. They fixed those 2 items for $630, but also wanted to replace the 4w drive system for an additional $400. They also said it should be replaced every 30K. He just sent me this yesterday.
What is up with this?
Are they talking a fluid change?
I asked him to get clarification as to what they will be doing.

He didn't know Autozone did free diagnostics as well and I'd help him replace anything that was bad. I think I'll save him some money next time.

Sounds like he got raped. I hope they meant change the fluid (ATF) in the transfer case, but $400?!? That better include the diff's as well! Tell him to come up to Quicklube at 52 and Schuyler--we do diff's for 20 and I think t-case for about 30.

$20 for a diff? that sounds like a good deal. I would jump on that if I didn't have access to a garage when I was down there.

Yeah I just started there but I'm pretty sure that's what we charge.

I think that roughly breaks down to about $120 an hour.

He didn't get back to me yet, but I sure hope he didn't take it back to the dealership.
