on the fuel thing...

if it were me, and yes i have done this with my own truck, i would do this:

i'd buy a bottle of Diesel Kleen, dump it in the tank, and top it off with fresh fuel. buy a couple of fuel filters and put them behind the seal in case of need

that trucks been sitting a while, its gonna have some gunk and crud. run a couple tanks of fuel thru it and change out the filter. if this were a electronic injection motor, i'd think differently. but this old mechanical injection cummins will run on just about any oil you dump in the tank.

In order for the pics...
-The homebrew tranny jack.. (has tie downs and is hard mounted to the jack... worked great)
-What came out of the tranny.. little bit of pepto bismol...
-Success
-Taking her to her resting place in the back yard...

It was a good day for contraption making. I made that tranny jack this morning and brandt made another tool that we just tested at 3 am...it's pretty sweet, as well.

heat exchanger?...Cooler?

Never really dealt with chrysler autos before but the converter looks pretty new. Does this look like a stock converter to anyone? The paint seems way to fresh to be from 91, '99 maybe.

This tranny is f***.

i didn't see any green in the pepto-pic, so i doubt it was the tranny cooler leaking.

it looks like the tranny got a bunch of water in it somehow...almost like it was a flood vehicle.

pull the front diff cover and see if there is water in there. also check the 205. if there is, drain i out, dry it out the best you can, and refill it with lube. i wouldn't be too worried about it unless the gears are covered in rust.

not sure about that TC....thats odd.

i bought one of these to remove and install the tranny in my Ram. this thing is great for the price ($50). i was able to pull and install the tranny in a matter of minutes each time. i even pulled it by myself. the only modification i did was glue some strips of rubber to the top plate with spray adhesive to keep the tranny from sliding around. worked perfectly.

that TC looks to been replaced. a good trans shop can dyno the trans with that TC too see if its good or not. this is the heat exchanger im talking about. It should be mounted next to the block, maybe the PO removed it?

So I am assuming that the heat exchanger uses coolant to heat up or regulate the temp of the transmission? That definitely looks like a newer TC, but I would be suspect if the trans fluid looked that bad.
