Yeah I agree, seems pretty dumb to me too. It is however much nicer to work on than my other chevy diesel. Those 6.2 injectors were a b**** to replace, it took 3x as long to do the job.

Ordered down pipe finally! I went with a Diesel Performance Parts unit since it is supposedly the easiest one to install on powerstrokes. This should lower my EGTs by 200 degrees while loaded. Time for a 10k mod Smile

Here are some pics from the install today. It definently wasn't very hard, but it was a biotch trying to get the sawzall in the tight spaces. I got some pictures of the before and after it was removed but I forgot to get a picture of the new one installed, DOH!

That is one weird ass stock downpipe. How did the new one affect egt's and boost? When i went with a 4 inch when my truck was stock, i lost about 250 degrees and gained about 10 pounds of boost.

After towing this weekend, I am really glad I put on the new downpipe. It dropped my EGTs around 150-200 depending on the speed and I gained about 5 psi of boost on the top end. The nice thing is how it sounds and how fast the turbo spools up now.

its crazy how something thats so simple helps out in a big way, makes you wonder why they didnt take the extra effort to make these downpipes fit from the factory. The dmax downpipes are about the same way though.
