I'm looking at FJ62 steering knuckle arms vs. the rangies stock axles. Looks to me like I want almost straight arms, guestimating for a 3" lift. I need one that comes out both the front and back on the passenger side and just the back on the drivers side. So the tie rod lives behind the front axle and the rod from the pitman arm to knuckle is up front.
4x4 labs high steer is $$$ and it looks to me like it going to come off the back about 6" too high and make the tie rod hit the oil pan.
Anyone know if the 4x4 labs high steer can be heated and bent?
Could an arm be safely fab'd from 1/2" mild steel and have it drilled for tie rod ends?
Or I think Justin said I might be able to use FJ70 arms was it?
Any other ideas.
From what I see:
4x4 labs high steer come out well above the knuckle
Stock D62 knuckle arms come out in about the middle (like axle height)
Stock Range Rover arms come out near the bottom of the knuckle.
Do I make any sense? I'm messed up today. I'll try again tomorrow if this all sounds stupit. Maybe some pics would help. Mondays just suck.

Old Rovers are like strippers. The things they do well, they do very, very well. Everything else you just have to put up with. |

If you can run Toyota mini truck high-steer arms that would probably be your best bet. I'm fairly sure they bolt up to the FJ62 knuckles, but you can check around and make sure. This would tuck your tie-rod up out of the way, but then you'll have to see if the stock steering box will work.
FJ80-FZJ80s have the tie rod behind the axle. Maybe you could find a set of those, but again you'll have to check if they bolt up to the FJ62 knuckle.
The difference comes where the FJ80-FZJ80s steering arms bolt to the bottom of the knuckle instead of the top of the knuckle like regular Toyota axles. The bottom plate on the FJ62 and min-truck axles just holds the king pin bearing in place (I think), so I would ASSume they can be flip-flopped for the FJ80-FZJ80 steering arms. This also puts the tie-rod down really low where it can get the s*** beat out of it.
I would just make the stock high-steer arms work by using a different steering box (forward facing - > FJ60-62, Astro box, Scout box, FJ80-FZJ80 box).
I'd look around, but I need to study some thermo II

The mini-truck steering arms will bolt on to the FJ60-FJ62 knuckles. I'd run the mini-truck steering arms or the stock steering arms. I think it would be cheaper and less of a hassle.

Is your steering box mounted on the inside or outside of the frame?

If you end up wanting to use the forward facing box I have a scout box.

I think the steering box is inside the frame... pretty sure. I was hoping to keep the tie rod behind the front axle, but maybe the toyota stock setup is just as good. I have the junk yard tie rod, boomeranged by the junk yard apes.
TY Geo.
I was just looking at these but I think I'll save the coin if I can: www.pirate4x4.com/foru...p?t=734014
